A Gem in the Heart of Seoul, Yongsan
Yongridan-Gil, also known as Yongridan street, is prominent commercial districts in Korea come with distinct characteristics. One intriguing aspect is the practice of attaching the suffix ‘Ri Dan Gil’ to a region’s name for instant marketing appeal. We’ve all heard of Songri Dan Gil in Songpa and Haeri Dan Gil in Haeundae.
In this post, we’ll delve into Yongridan-Gil, situated between SinYongsan Station and Samgakji Station, to uncover its unique charm and allure.
Location and Advantages
Nestled across from the Amorepacific building, Yongridan-Gil boasts a strategic position between Sin Yongsan Station and Samgakji Station.
Here’s how to get to Yongsan-dong Street from Sinyongsan Station by Subway:
- Exit the Sinyongsan Station (Line 4).
- Take Exit 3 and head outside.
- Walk to the left for about 5 minutes to reach Yongridan-Gil.
Often, I find myself spending evenings or weekends here. In my opinion, there are three main factors contribute to Yongridan-Gil: a comfortable population density compared to Gangnam, an abundance of high-quality spaces, and its central Seoul location that ensures satisfaction for friends from all corners of the city.

The charm of Yongridan-gil
The Definite Center of Seoul
Yongsan is emerging as a vibrant hub for tourism and shopping, solidifying its position as a new center of Seoul’s urban landscape. The district has witnessed a remarkable surge in attention with the relocation of the presidential office, the symbol of political power, to Yongsan. The presence of globally renowned entities like the BTS agency, HYBE, further catalyzes this transformation. This shift has led to a substantial increase in foot traffic, including foreign tourists. Amorepacific, a leading force in K-beauty, also draws crowds with its distinctive headquarters building.
Hub of Culture
Whether you wander near ‘Namsan Seoul Tower,’ enjoy the proximity of the Han River, or immerse yourself in the enriching experiences offered by institutions like the ‘National Museum of Korea’ and the ‘War Memorial of Korea,’ Yongsan stands as a beloved destination cherished by its residents. The area surrounding Yongsan Station and Samgakji is aptly dubbed a ‘hot place’—a hub of activity that resonates with its storied past, where countless tales and cultures converged.

Historic Journey
While the 20th century saw waves of modernization sweeping through Yongsan, unfortunate times befell the district with the establishment of military and railway bases by victorious Japan after the Russia-Japanese War. Leveraging its geographical advantage, Yongsan was exploited for imperialistic purposes. However, it has since risen above its past to become a resilient area of transformation and rejuvenation.
Rising Commercial District
Yongsan’s commercial district has been renewed. Yongsan Station Alley, where only a few old stores were sparsely located in the past, has recently changed its atmosphere with a large number of trendy stores. The Yongsan Station commercial district, which was mainly visited by office workers and nearby residents, has now emerged as one of the most visited “hip” commercial districts in the country by AmorePacific’s new office building and Yongridan-gil.
Must-Go place
Restaurant
뚝방닭구이

This store is a restaurant that grills chicken special parts. Even though it is the same store, the atmosphere is different from the ground floor. The first basement floor is like a normal restaurant, but the ground is set up as if you were going camping and grilling meat, so I recommend the ground floor.
I recommend ordering chicken grilled with salt (닭갈비 소금구이) and Namdo doenjang jjigae (남도된장찌개)
Pub
Buravo Pub (부라보선술집)

In this post, I’m excited to introduce a pub I frequently visit on Yongsan—Buravo Pub. As I share my experiences, you’ll discover why this spot has become a favorite hangout for after-work relaxation and weekend gatherings.
This store boasts a Korean-style interior that can be found in the K-grandmother’s house, mainly Korean snacks and beer. Among beer, Guinness is especially excellent, and the inside is narrow but cozy.
Reservations and parking are difficult, and it is famous as a secondary place, so I recommend you to finish your dinner quickly and go.
